The client had an extremely unattractive 1970’s electric fire in their new property, which they wanted removing and upgrading to an attractive and efficient wood burning stove.
They had an unusually shallow chimney breast, considering the age of the property.
It was decided that we would construct a false chimney breast to accommodate a suitably sized appliance as per customer requirements.
We excavated the existing aperture to gain the maximum width possible, then constructed the internal chimney breast to get the optimum depth.
Having lined the internals of the opening with a heat resistant decorative board we then installed plasterboard to the front of the breast.
Prior to plastering, we laid concrete slabs to the required dimensions in preparation for the tiled hearth
To maintain an element of continuity throughout the property, we completed the hearth with the same tiles as those laid in their kitchen.
We installed a distressed wooden beam above the opening to keep in with the character of the period property.
After plastering their new breast enlargement and finishing the hearth, we completed the installation with the always popular and British made Clearview Pioneer 400 Multi-fuel stove in black complete with 2″ legs.
The final installation brought back some much needed character and warmth to this lovely period cottage in a quaint Wiltshire village.
